Google (and other) search engines are the prime way visitors will find your website. If you aren’t indexed by the most popular search engines, Google, MSN and Yahoo your website might as well be invisible!
Many of the strategies to make your website ’search engine friendy’ are also the strategies that will make it ‘people friendly’ too! Many visually impaired people surf the web with web readers so you want to make your site accessible to these visitors too.
So how do you ensure Google indexes your website and sends visitors your way? There is no magic formula. No one can guarantee a top ten ranking on any of these search engines. What we can do is optimise your website using all the strategies availble. Search engines send out ’spiders’ to crawl through the net and find out about all the sites. To make your website visible it must have a relevant title that contains keywords relevant to your content. Links on your site must be accessible to the spiders, that is they must be text rather than images. All the pages on your site must be linked together and easily navigated. A site map (even for a small site) greatly increases the ease by which a spider can navigate around your site and find relevant content.
